PDO Threading Q&A

What is PDO threading?

PDO threading, also called a PDO thread lift, is a non-surgical facelift or body lift in which your Artem Med Spa specialist injects dissolvable sutures into the skin where you have lost volume, have skin laxity, or are experiencing sagging.

Sutures tighten and lift the skin invisibly while encouraging the body to create new collagen that supports your skin after the sutures dissolve. These sutures in your skin trigger cells called fibroblasts to produce more collagen. Collagen is the protein that gives your skin its structure and elasticity. Loss of collagen is one of the leading causes of aging skin.

PDO threads differ in size, shape, quality, and function. There are three main types.

Are all PDO threads the same?

PDO threads are one of three sutures commonly used in PDO threading. Other types are made from polycaprolactone (PCA) and polylactic acid (PLA). PCA and PLA threads are newer than PDO. They last longer in your body and tend to stimulate more collagen production.

PDO threading can be further divided into three categories:

Mono threads

Also called mesh threads, these threads are smooth sutures that help rejuvenate the skin by stimulating collagen production.

Cog threads

Cog threads have barbs that latch into your skin like small fishhooks, lift parts of your face, and provide support.

Screw threads

Screw threads are made up of one or two intertwined. These threads are used to restore volume to sunken skin.

Each type of thread is best suited for a particular function. PDO threading is better at repositing and revitalizing tissue, while PCA and PLA threads are better at lifting sagging skin parts.

Are there different types of PDO threading procedures?

PDO threading lift procedures include the following:

  • Brow Lift
  • Eye Lift
  • Midface Lift
  • Lower Face Lift
  • Jaw Lift
  • Neck Lift

You can combine PDO threading with other treatments like dermal fillers to maximize results. This helps the body make new collagen, supporting long-lasting improvement and results.

Your knowledgeable specialist at Artem Med Spa can also recommend a suitable PDO thread type or a combination of PDO thread types for the skin issue you wish to address and the individual goals you want to achieve.
